New Road Rules
As of 9 November 2009 there are new road rules that regulate the use of mobile phones and audio devices in cars.
It is prohibited to use a mobile phone whilst driving, except when making or receiving call or to operate the audio functions on the phone or any other audio device (ipod, mp3 player etc). To do this though the device must be secure in a commercially designed cradle fixed to the vehicle, or can be operated without the driver touching the device.
A driver is allowed to operate a GPS fuction on a mobile phone under the circumstances outlined above.
Drivers are prohibited from texting, emailing or making video calls regardless of whether the device is in a crade or not.
Learner and P1 drivers cannot use a mobile phone at all while driving.
